WIOA Youth Success Story – Chase’s Journey to Success, Barbour County

When Chase first connected with the Youth Ready program, he was determined to earn his GED after being homeschooled. He knew this would open doors to future opportunities, but he faced challenges in several areas, including reading and writing. Despite these obstacles, Chase was motivated to learn and eager to grow.

Chase enrolled in Barbour County Adult Education, where he worked diligently toward his GED. Along the way, he took advantage of every opportunity to strengthen his skills and prepare for the workforce. He earned multiple certificates, a few including Digital Literacy, Customer Service, and Work Essentials, demonstrating his commitment to building a strong foundation for his career.

While participating in the program, Chase also earned his driver’s license, an important step toward independence and employment readiness. With focus and persistence, he continued to pass one test after another until he proudly achieved his goal of earning his GED.

Chase’s hard work did not go unnoticed, he and his sister (pictured below) were honored by the state as Student of the Year for their outstanding accomplishments and dedication. After completing his GED, Chase began exploring career options and realized he wanted to pursue work in the medical field. Shortly after, he secured a position with Choice Care as a direct care worker, where he enjoys going to work each day and continues to grow both personally and professionally.

Chase’s journey is a true example of how determination, support, and a positive attitude can turn goals into achievements.
