Youth Services – “YOUTH READY”

The Region VI Workforce Development Board provides Out-of-School youth program services to at-risk youth ages 16 -24 who reside in the Region VI area to assist in preparing for a productive career through various beneficial trainings and educational services. 

Youth who are at least 16 years of age and not more than 24 years of age, who are not attending any school, may be determined eligible to participate in the Out-of-school youth program.  Other eligibility criteria will need to be met and will be discussed at the time of appointment with a youth staff person. 

Based upon assessment of individualized needs, eligible services may include one or more of the following: 

  • Tutoring 
  • Alternative secondary school services 
  • Paid and unpaid work experiences, which may include the following types of work experiences:
    • Summer (and during the school year) employment opportunities 
    • Pre-apprenticeship programs 
    • Internships and job shadowing 
    • On-the-job training opportunities 
  • Occupational skill training that lead to recognized post-secondary credentials in a demand occupation 
  • Education for a specific occupation or occupational cluster 
  • Leadership development opportunities 
  • Supportive services 
  • Adult mentoring for at least 12 months 
  • Follow up services for not less than 12 months after completion of participation in the program 
  • Comprehensive guidance and counseling 
  • Financial literacy education 
  • Entrepreneurial skills training 
  • Labor market and employment information about in-demand industry sectors or occupations available in the local area 
  • Activities that help youth prepare for and transition to post-secondary education and training 

The Board has contracted with the Human Resource Development Foundation (HRDF) to provide “YOUTH READY” services. An appointment with one of their youth mentors is required to determine eligibility. See below for youth mentor contact information.
